The SnowFin Legend

Off the eastern coast of North Carolina lies a crescent of islands called the Outer Banks. Like a gatekeeper to the Atlantic, early wooden ships would sail from the coast through a narrow channel of water called Hatteras Inlet.

Hatteras Inlet, however, is a snake-like, narrow channel which changes almost daily with the ebb and flow of the latest tide. Before the days of lighthouses and buoys, the ship's pilot certainly earned his keep navigating through this graveyard of shoals and reefs.
According to local legend, in the late 1790's, an albino dolphin began to appear in front of ships as they attempted this hazardous crossing. Amazingly, the dolphin steered the ships through the deepest part of the cut. Leading the way, the snow-white fin of the dolphin became the guide and guardian of crossing ships.
Soon, these mariners began to rely upon the guidance of the dolphin and would sound their foghorns at the inlet mouth to summon their unusual companion. The dolphin would invariably come and lead them through the windy passage carved by the most recent tide. The legend even recounts that the dolphin would take note of the depth of the ship and steer the vessel through the best course.
At SnowFin, we are your guide through the murky waters of business technology. Every day, we earn the confidence of modern merchant ships as they ply the treacherous seas of Information Technology.
